Google’s analytics and task manager tools help you streamline the process of improving upon your current plan and putting it into action. The analytics tool is a simple way to get a clear picture of your website’s traffic and usage and helps you understand customer activity and how to tailor a better experience. Together with the task manager, you can analyze, adapt, and execute using two effective tools.
In order to install and use these two tools, follow these steps:
Step 1: If you don’t have it already get a Google Analytics Tracking ID for the website you’re wanting to track. This starts with a UA-
Step 2: Sign in to Google Task Manager: https://tagmanager.google.com/.
If you do not have access to the GTM account in question, then you can log in using the client’s Google username and password that was provided in an incognito window if using Chrome (Private Browsing mode for Safari). Then you can add yourself and the rest of the BG team by clicking the Gear and then selecting User Management under Account on the left of the screen.
Step 3: Click the URL of the website you’re wanting to add Google Analytics to.
Step 4: Select “Add a new Tag”.
Step 5: Click the box under “Tag Configuration”.
Step 6: If you scroll down, you will see two items under “Workspace Changes”.
Step 7: Leave “Track Type as Page View”; Under Google Analytics Settings select “New Variable…”
Step 8: Paste the Google Analytics Tracking ID in the Tracking ID box. Then, select “Save” in the upper right-hand corner. It will now prompt you to rename the variable as Google Analytics Settings. Once finished, click “Save” again.
Step 9: Click “Triggering” and also click “All Pages” as the Trigger, then hit “ADD” in the upper right-hand corner.
Step 10: Hit “Save” in the upper right of the screen, then select “Save Again” under “Rename Variable”. (If you scroll you will see two items under “Workspace Changes”)
Step 11: Select Submit in the upper right of the screen. Then, select “Publish” in the upper right of the screen. If you would like, you can add a name and description under “Container Version Description” and select Continue.
Now you have successfully set up GA and GTM! Use this simple process for all your URL’s to get access to important data and analytics that will help you achieve the visibility and presence you deserve!
