Simple SEO Tips
Here are just a few of the simple SEO tips that we use on a regular basis. We do have a full checklist we use every time we build a new webpage, update a page, post a new blog, edit a blog – you get the point. No matter what, we do not miss these seemingly small details. Though when these tasks are completed every time, you can increase your reach. It’s paying attention to the nitty-gritty details that will put you on top, because not everyone is doing this.
If you want the details, download our complete Page Level SEO Checklist down below, but for now, here are a few simple tips:
Schema Markup
This is actually one of the most underutilized yet powerful methods you can use. The best way to describe schema is that it helps search engines understand what your data means, not just what it says. For example, if you run a concert venue the schema markup will tell the search engine to display the dates along with the link to your website on the results page.
Marking up the schema of your page simply helps your different pages rank better and be seen by more relevant viewers. You can identify authors of articles, types of videos, products, events, and much more. On average, companies that utilize this method can rank up to 4 places higher on results pages. URL Structure
Using URLs effectively dramatically affects how easy it is to find your site. In order to test the viability of your URL, ask yourself a few questions:
- Does my URL make sense?
- Is it relevant to my services and audience?
- Is it unique or is it a highly common phrase that would be used?
Your URL should be simple and effective. It should be memorable, easy to find, yet still unique enough to rank in search results. If this seems difficult, start with something simple that matches your image and isn’t too busy. Try researching the top SEO ranks in your niche to see what the competition is doing.
Image SEO
One of the key SEO factors is the presence of images on websites and articles. There is another layer to this, though, and that is the metadata surrounding the images you post. The title, alt text, and description of the images should be relevant to the tags and keywords you are aiming for. Overlooking this step is just another way other sites can gain an advantage.
Page SEO
If you are a WordPress user, you have most likely seen the page elements that it emphasizes for better rankings. There are a few main elements of your page you should make sure are up to standard before posting including:
- H1, H2, H3, etc. tags. This helps tell search engines the organization of your pages and how relevant they are.
- Readability – do you have run-on sentences? Is your grammar correct? Are your paragraphs digestible?
- Are images spread proportionately? Are these images relevant?
Google’s search engine is very smart, and it reads a lot of these details when determining where to rank you on its competitive results page. (Keep scrolling for a checklist of our Page-Level SEO items).
Site-Level SEO
In order to get the most out of your website’s SEO rank, you will also need to take a step back and go over some of the broader details of your website. These include things such as:
- Clear and well-structured image placement
- Consistent branding (fonts, logos, colors)
- Grammar (using tools such as Grammarly)
- Mobile-friendly structuring
All of these factors just offer you more opportunity to continue boosting your relevance and score among your competitors. Before you are ready to go live, always take a step back and look at your site from a new visitor’s point of view.
If you follow all of these steps you will be giving yourself a much better chance at showing up higher on relevant searches. SEO is all about being hyper-consistent and keeping your website clean, organized, and detailed in the backend.
