Small Business

“There is a powerful driving force inside every human being that, once unleashed, can make any vision, dream, or desire a reality.”

Small Business

We are a small, family-owned business, so we have a soft spot for these in our community. A lot of the small businesses we have worked with in the past have been in existence for many years, but have yet to adapt to the digital realm and may be losing out on business. It can be quite the shock to shift toward a higher digital presence, but we work with your organization and within your budget to explain the entire process to you and make sure you feel comfortable with the direction.

We gravitate toward small business because these organizations are generally well established, organized, and successful (hopefully), and are ready for an outsourced digital marketing firm. If you are wondering if your organization is the right fit for us, you are in the right section. Small businesses that are profitable and have a budget for marketing might be ready for next steps. If you are still getting started and don’t have much budget for marketing, we may still be able to help you. Contact us for a free consultation and we will assess your status.

We also like working with entrepreneurs, which are really just small business owners just getting out of the gate. We ourselves being entrepreneurs love to work with other like-minded people! We have a lot of personal experience to share when it comes to licensing your business, marketing, operations, client management and the list goes on. We love being able to share this information with other entrepreneurs, as well as learn from them.

As entrepreneurs, we are always open to new opportunities. While we specialize in certain fields of digital marketing (visit our Services page here), we are always open to new opportunities to learn and different types of clients to work with.

We also offer consulting services if you would like to start your own company. We have experienced M.B.A. professionals and over a decade of experience in business startups and management on our team. We practice the Rockefeller habits and reference Scaling Up on a daily basis as a part of our internal operations.

Featured Case Study

When SMI came to us for help, it was working with a small sales budget, very little time to spend on marketing, and a disjointed list of about 20,000 contacts from business meetings, networking events, friends, and family. The company was looking for an affordable way to organize those leads and reach out to ones that were promising.

Answers to Your Questions

How much should I be spending on digital marketing?

The Small Business Administration (SBA) recommends that businesses that are making less than $5 million per year should spend anywhere between 7-8% of their annual revenue on marketing. Some marketers say that approximately 40% of that spend should be spent on digital strategies.

This is not cheap! It doesn’t have to be extraordinarily expensive either though. At Bolt Goodly, we do our best to get you the most value for your money because we understand the struggle of budgeting for marketing. The hardest concept to grasp is that marketing is a marathon, not a sprint and the return on your investment will come gradually over time. However, if done effectively by looking at data that leads to results (which we do!) you should see upward results sooner rather than later.

I’ve never had a website and my business is doing fine. Why do I need one?

We have come across this question fairly often and there is no one right answer. The answer I usually give is, you may be fine now, but what about in 5 years? 10? One-third of the world is online and there are now more mobile phones than there are people. For the long-term success of your organization, you will eventually need to get online to keep up with the competition.

The internet has allowed one huge thing for humanity – ease of information. As it gets easier and easier for people to find information online, if you aren’t visible, you will get left behind. Mobile search rises continuously year over year and people are using services that are one page one of a Google search. You may be able to continue to thrive on referrals and repeat business, but if you want to scale or stay relevant, going online is your answer.

Do I really need to hire an agency, or can I just do it myself?

There are so many tools available to do digital marketing on your own these days that many people opt for that. The truth is, however, that there is a LOT to know about digital marketing, so much more than you can learn just doing it part time for your own business. There are experts out there (like us!) that do this full time. Why not pay them to do it?

Also, unfortunately, we spend a lot more time than we’d like fixing mistakes. This is not the fault of the client, simply a level of inexperience. We find that once people learn the long-term value of having an agency-level expert on their side, it’s a no-brainer when it comes to adding that to the budget. Besides, do you really want to learn an entirely new skill? Or do you want to keep doing what you do best and let us do the work of bringing your more business online?

So what kind of marketing should I be doing?

This is a huge question! It really depends on the type of business you’re in and your customer persona. Understanding your target market is the first step. If you’re going after a younger demographic, then social media by way of Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest may be crucial. If you are focused on business professionals then LinkedIn, Twitter, and email campaigns following sales funnels may be where you need to be. The bottom line is first having an understanding of what your customer persona wants will help determine where you need to be in order to be in front of them while they are doing their research. And this awareness stage of marketing may be different from the decision and retention phase. Having an inclusive strategy that keeps your brand in front of your persona each step of the way through the customer journey, and via various mediums, will ensure your success and where to market.
